Virginie Saverys

Virginie Saverys graduated in 1983 from the University of Paris with a degree in law (Maîtrise en Droit) and is translator-interpreter (Institut Supérieur d'Interprétation et de Traduction - Paris - 1983).

She started her career in Bocimar's legal department. In 1985 she left Bocimar to set up Exmar's legal department. From 1991 till 2006 she was in charge of CMB and Euronav's legal department. She has been a director of CMB since 1993 and the Secretary General from 1995 till 2006. She has been a director of Euronav from 2003 till 2014.

Since 2006 she spends a lot of her time in Tuscany, where she pursued her passion for wines by becoming a minority shareholder in Avignonesi in 2007. In 2009 she became full owner with the clear goal of taking an already exceptional and esteemed winery known for quality to new levels of excellence, whilst applying organic and biodynamic viticulture. Today, her focus revolves around Avignonesi’s nuanced terroir, creating wines that highlight the characteristics of the key varietal, Sangiovese, in the historic area of Montepulciano and wines that explore the potential of international varietals such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon in the area of Cortona, both located in southern Tuscany.

She was born in Ghent on February 19, 1960.
